In the past, the Nindilingarri Cultural Health Services Environmental Health Team
has been primarily involved with the following activities:

  • Minor plumbing and housing repairs
  • Dog program with the Shire
  • House assessment – limited
  • Pest control program with Shire
  • Pumping septic tanks
  • Maintaining sewerage ponds – clean up area around ponds
  • Rubbish – community clean up and tip inspections
  • Professional development
  • Support for training EHWs in the Communities

Where do we want to go?

In March, 2006, the Environmental Health Team took part in a strategic planning process.
This process involved identifying the most important environmental health issues in the
Fitzroy Valley and determining the NCHS Environmental Health Team’s capacity to do
something about these issues. From this process they decided on 3 key areas to focus
on and build into programs.

3 Key Areas for 2006-2008:

  • Housing
  • Rubbish and Waste removal
  • Water Quality/ Dog Health (to be confirmed)

Another key priority that emerged for the team is training, as few of the team had
completed formal Environmental Health training. As a result, Nindilingarri is supporting
the Aboriginal Environmental Health Workers to obtain Certificate III in
Environmental Health Work.
